Proper storage is essential for maintaining peptide integrity. Lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides are relatively stable but can degrade if exposed to heat, moisture, or light. Store lyophilized peptides at -20 degrees Celsius in a sealed container, protected from light.
Before opening a vial that has been stored frozen, allow it to reach room temperature first. Opening a cold vial introduces moisture through condensation, which can degrade the peptide. Wait at least 15-20 minutes before opening.
For reconstitution, bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is the most common solvent. It contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, allowing multi-use over days or weeks.
When adding solvent to the vial, direct the stream against the glass wall rather than directly onto the peptide cake. Gently swirl the vial to dissolve. Never shake vigorously.
Once reconstituted, store the peptide solution at 2-8 degrees Celsius. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. If you need long-term storage, aliquot into single-use portions before freezing.
